College Days- Transistors - Licence Raj

St Stephen's College, Delhi- Days 1975-80

During our time in college , ( 1975-80 ), transistors were very popular among Resident students both for listening to news and music.

I had a Bush brand transistor .

In those days , a Govt. Licence was compulsory for possession of radios , transistors and TV sets.
Annually , these licences had to be renewed .

The owner had to visit the specific post office where his licence was registered and pay a small fees to get the licence renewed. The fees were paid in the form of special fiscal stamps which were to be affixed on the licence booklet and then got cancelled from postal authorities.

My Bush transistor licence was duly transferred from my home town to my college address.

But due to an inadvertent error , in my licence , in my new address , the postal zone mentioned as Delhi- 6 and not the correct Delhi -7.

As a result, I had to , annually , undertake a DTC bus trip to Kashmere Gate Post Office Delhi 6 , near Students Store book shop , to get my transistor licence renewed
