The whole Ramayana conflict , between Lord Ram and Ravan originated in the unfortunate episode of Ravana' s sister Sarupnakha 's mutilation.
Sarupnakha had only sent a friendship request. Over reaction and her mutilation infuriated her omnipotent brother Ravana. This started the unfortunate chain of events.
